Jimmy Kimmel Apologizes Over Sean Hannity Feud
In case you spent the weekend trying to ignore Twitter (in which case, bless), here's a quick catch up of one social media scandal that played out: Jimmy Kimmel got into a feud with Fox stalwart Sean Hannity. Why? Ugh, how long do you have?
Basically, Kimmel mocked Melania Trump's accent in a skit, Hannity took issue, and the pair then engaged in a seemingly-endless back-and-forth that involved Hannity comparing Kimmel to Harvey Weinstein, as well as calling him a "pig," "pervert," and "racist."
Kimmel then generated controversy by making some offensive jokes about Hannity being gay (and in a sexual relationship with President Trum specifically), which understandably didn't go down well.
The late night host issued an apology after receiving backlash, saying, "By lampooning Sean Hannity's deference to the President, I most certainly did not intend to belittle or upset members of the gay community and to those who took offense, I apologize."
He also mentioned that he had received attacks against his wife and infant son, saying, "Even in 2018, the vile attacks against my wife and wishes for death on my infant son are shocking and I encourage those who made them to give their words and actions thought. I, too, will give my words more thought and recognize my role in inciting their hatefulness."
Hannity has since confirmed he'll "have a full and comprehensive response" to Kimmel's apology on his show Monday night - and considering Kimmel's statement continues to throw shade at him, it's very possible the beef is still cooking. So, you know, get excited!
