On Tuesday, ABC canceled the reboot of Roseanne after Roseanne Barr tweeted a racist message about Valerie Jarrett, a former adviser to President Obama. Later that day, ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel urged his own network to reconsider-sort of.

Mainly, Kimmel's issue is ratings, since Roseanne broke major records when the new reboot debuted. “We don’t have much on this network. We’re hoping the NBA Finals goes 11 games this year. We’re still airing America’s Funniest Home Videos, okay?” he joked on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “Roseanne was [a] very bigly hit for ABC, and we needed it.”

Kimmel came up with a plan to save the show, but cut out the whole Roseanne part out of Roseanne. He recut a trailer of Roseanne and instead renamed it Dan, centering it around John Goodman’s character, Dan Conner, instead. And it looks just as natural as the original show itself.

Lots of Roseanne viewers echoed the same idea after the news of the show’s cancellation. After all, why let talented actors like John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf go to waste?

Some people had totally solid ideas for how to make the transition work: replace Barr with Leah Remini a la Kevin Can Wait, transition the show into a Big Lebowski series, have Roseanne Conner die in a spectacular fashion, or just have her get beamed up back to her home planet.
