When you spend your days making over homes on the hit HGTV show Fixer Upper, running Magnolia Market in your hometown of Waco, Texas and raising four young kids, you need to eat food that will keep you full and energized. Honestly, we're exhausted just thinking about Joanna Gaines' day-to-day life. But she packs her diet full of fresh produce and practicality, which we think is the secret behind her success. Trust us, you're going to want to take notes.

She enjoys a hearty breakfast to start her day on the right track.

That means pancakes, eggs, you name it. As for her husband, Chip Gaines, he likes it when Joanna puts his over-easy eggs right on top of his flapjacks.

She preps ahead of time to make eating healthy lunches fast and easy.

She admits it's hard to fit in the time, but that it makes a huge difference. "When I do make a point to sit down and write out meals for the week, it makes grocery shopping and prepping dinner much easier - even when my days are full of to-do's," she wrote on her blog.

But when there's no time to prep, she makes wise choices when she eats out.

"It's not about perfection or homemade meals on the dinner table every single night at 6:30 - it's about doing what you can with the time you have," she wrote on her blog. And that, people, is why we love her.

She uses produce from her own garden to make fresh dinners.

Whatever is ripe also serves as inspiration for what she decides to make. For instance, when tomatoes, kale and fresh herbs are ready to be picked, Italian is the clear winner.

Snack time is almost always something healthy and fresh.
