Joanna Gaines Takes to Instagram to Posts Rare Photos of Her and Her Sister
Joanna Gaines is a proud big sister. The Fixer Upper star and mom of five recently took to Instagram to celebrate an especially exciting milestone for her little sister, Mary Kay. "Mikey," as Joanna affectionately calls her, opened her very own retro plant shop, Ferny's, after years of dreaming.
"A couple things I love so much...my baby sis and watching someone pursue what makes them come alive," Joanna begins her post. "So you can imagine how I'm feeling today as these two things come together!!!" she says. According to Joanna, opening up her very own plant store has been a longstanding goal on Mikey's to-do list. "Mikey has had this dream for years and with six kids and the busyness of life, she's waited patiently to step out and pursue this creative and quiet stirring in her heart," says Joanna. In Mikey's own post, she writes, "About 21 years ago when I was in college I started dreaming of having a little shop." She adds, "That little desire never went away[...] a couple years ago I started to really dream again. And it’s been so fun! And also a little scary."
But as Joanna says, "today she's going for it!" referring to Mikey's very first pop-up shop, which took place this weekend out of her 1967 Yellowstone Cavelier at the grand opening at Black Oat Art, one of Waco's top pottery studios. Cute plants and even cuter vintage mugs, pots, and varying vessels she uses as planters filled her set up—exactly the kind of items you might find garnishing the shelves in an episode of Fixer Upper (no wonder Joanna is so proud!).
While there's no word on when the next pop-up might be, there is hope that we'll soon be able to shop online at Ferny's. In a comment on a recent Instagram photo that asks whether the plant shop ships, Mikey writes, "not at this time, but hopefully in the future. ;)" Until then, we'll be anxiously awaiting the chance to bring home our very own Ferny's find.
