Is Joey King Wearing a Wig in 'The Kissing Booth 3'?

Joey King became known for the trademark brunette tresses she wore as Elle Evans in Netflix's The Kissing Booth franchise. So fans of the series will be shocked to know that Joey actually wore a wig for the majority of both The Kissing Booth 2 and The Kissing Booth 3.

ICYMI, the last two Kissing Booth installments were filmed at the same time, so the wig Joey wore in preparation for KB2 was the same wig she wore in the finale.

Joey rocking a wig wasn't a secret, though. In a July 2020 Instagram post, she shared a timelapse of her preparation process: makeup and wig application included.

While she kept her hair concealed in both movies, Joey did rock her real hair during one important scene in The Kissing Booth 3. According to JustJared, Elle's sleek and mature pixie cut during a six-year flash forward at the end of the film was actually Joey's hair.

The decision to wear a wig in The Kissing Booth came as Joey signed on for a role as Gypsy Rose Blanchard in Hulu's The Act in 2018.

During a chat with Allure, Joey revealed that she was completely unbothered when she had to cut her hair. "I’ve never really had an attachment to my hair. I couldn’t care less what happens to it," she explained. "No part of me was nervous or was second-guessing it. So many people would ask me, ‘Are you really scared?’ or ‘Are you nervous?’ or say, ‘You’re so brave.’ And I’d go, ‘I’m not brave, I’m just cutting my hair off.'"

This isn't the first time Joey made a bold hair move for a role.

According to People, she shaved her head onscreen for the 2014 film Wish I Was Here when she was only 14. Prior to that, she wore a buzz cut for her role in The Dark Knight Rises in 2012.
