Joey Sasso From ‘The Circle’ Explains How He Stayed Sane in That Tiny Apartment

From Men's Health

Warning: The following post contains spoilers for season 1 of The Circle.

If you know Joey Sasso, you know Joey Sasso (or, maybe, JOEY SASSO!) as the colorful, impassioned contestant on Netflix’s The Circle, a reality series where contestants take up residence in adjacent apartment units and communicate entirely through a semi gameified social media service ... before voting their fellow digital avatar co-stars off the virtual island. It is 100 percent an actual show and not just a spin-off Black Mirror episode. Or maybe it is, and The Circle’s social media experiment is really just some meta-ploy to study its fanbase. Who knows.

What’s clear, however, is that JOEY SASSO, the (spoiler) winner of the first season, is also a very real person. And he's become a very big deal. The 26-year-old moved to LA to pursue a film career after high school, and though he’s landed a few parts, it will be his stint on Netflix that no doubt elevates his celebrity. And he's totally fine with that.

Sasso came into the Men’s Health offices to talk about the show, being trapped inside an apartment ("the hardest thing I've ever done"), and lots of other random nuggets. Here are a few Sasso thoughts. JOEY SASSO!

On diets

"The only diet I’ve ever done that works for me is Keto. It’s everything I love to eat. If there’s a new study that [says] it’s the worst thing in the universe, I’ll reevaluate. For now: Keto. Best. Diet. Ever.

"For me, I like to do meal prepping. I think you get yourself on a schedule that really puts your entire week into perspective. So if I’m off on a Sunday, I start my day, go to the grocery store—I have a whole list of the exact ounce of what I need—buy everything for the week, go home, cook one thing at a time, put it into separate containers, so throughout the week when I’m busy I don’t have to worry about my food."

On men showing emotions

"The strongest thing any man can do is be emotional. I cry on everything. The dog commercial with the Sarah McLachlan and the dogs looking in your eyes … I can’t do it."

On Robert De Niro

"Can you make [a scene with me and Robert De Niro] happen? He’s the godfather of our heritage of cinema. Better than Pacino. I said it. I’m sorry. Pacino’s number two. Uncle Bobby, I love you."

On being the next Bachelor

"How would that go? I’d fall in love with everybody. I don’t know if I’d be able to pick someone. I don’t know if this would be the best thing. I don’t know!"
