John Amos' Daughter Shannon Breaks Silence on Brother K.C.'s Arrest
Shannon Amos is speaking out after brother Kelly "K.C." Amos was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill her.
Shannon, who is the daughter of Good Times actor John Amos, noted in a statement provided to Parade on July 19, “My family and I continue to advocate and fight for the proper care of my father," referencing the elder abuse claims she made back in June.
As for her brother—who, according to a complaint obtained by People, was arrested over the weekend after allegedly sending Shannon seemingly threatening messages—Shannon said she's "pleased that Kelly is being held accountable for his actions which have put my father’s health at risk, and look forward to resolving this matter in private with the proper authorities."
John's rep, who has spoken on behalf of the family previously, has not responded to Parade's request for comment.
In addition to K.C.'s arrest, Shannon addressed the controversy surrounding the GoFundMe page she launched last month. For those who may've missed it, Shannon attempted to start a fundraiser for her famous father, claiming the West Wing alum had "fallen victim to elder abuse and financial exploitation" from an unnamed caretaker.
John, 83, later denied he was a victim of elder abuse, noting in a video shared on K.C.'s Instagram page: "I'm an 83-year-old man. And I have two children. My son is here with me in the hospital in Memphis, he's at my bedside. And I'm not in the hospital as a result of anything that happened recently. Other than the fact that, about a month ago, I was hospitalized because I was suffering from water retention and a couple of other issues, all of which had been corrected, or at least addressed."
As he continued, John stated in the video that his "main issues" were with his daughter, adding, "who I feel has taken advantage of me and she would be the primary suspect if you would."
The Roots actor further said, "She's the one that I would attribute my elderly abuse to."
Shannon has once again denied any wrongdoing to Parade, stating in the July 19 statement, "Despite false accusations and defamatory statements being made against me, I remain committed to ensuring that he receives the best medical care. John Amos may be known as ‘America's Dad’, but for me, he is my father.”
Shannon's rep further clarified that the GoFundMe page was not taken down by Shannon voluntarily.
K.C. was removed as John's medical power of attorney back in June, according to Shannon's rep.
