John Legend Admitted to Cheating in His Past Relationships
While John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are a shining beacon of true love these days, Legend explained that he wasn't always the best when it came to relationships. During an appearance on Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard, Legend and host Shepard both shared stories about how they cheated on their exes — and neither one is proud of the fact.
Shepard started off, saying, "So, I have a horrendous history of cheating, fucking deplorable." He traced the behavior all the way back to middle school, saying that when he started to get attention from girls, he didn't have it in him to refuse it, even if he was in a relationship.

Legend said that his situation was similar, only it didn't happen when he was that young. He told Shepard that he got the same sort of attention when he was still an up-and-coming musician. As soon as that happened, he said, he couldn't get enough.
"I think what happened for me, personally, you go through a lot of your life in your teens — and I was like the 'two years younger kid than everybody' in high school and college, and so I just didn't get a lot of girls when I was younger," Legend said. "When I started to get that attention, I loved it. I just ate it up."
Legend went on to say that he would tell himself that it wasn't "technically" cheating because he kept his relationship status blurry. Because there was no official statement on the situation, he thought he could do whatever he wanted.
"I escaped 'technically cheating' by keeping my relationship ill-defined. But it was really cheating," Legend explained. "I definitely was dishonest and selfish and just enjoyed this new attention I was getting. It was happening before I was famous but when I was kind of on my way."

Now, Legend is happily married to Chrissy Teigen and he assured listeners that his days of cheating are behind him. He told Shepard that being married and faithful is much more fulfilling than the things he used to do.
"You just realize you're happier being honest. You’re happier being faithful and being in love with one person. At a certain point, I just decided that person was Chrissy. I decided I wasn't gonna mess with anybody else anymore," Legend finished. "It's so much easier. Your whole life is lighter. When you're able to be honest with a person and you aren't hiding texts [...] your mind is freer."
