John Legend Reveals That Two Former Members of his 'The Voice' Team Got Married
John Legend
On tonight’s episode of The Voice, when Team Chance the Rapper’s contestants Bri Fletcher and Serenity Arce face off in the Battles, Serenity talks about what close friends the two women have become, which is something that the artists regularly talk about when they do interviews for the show. She was sad that only one of them was going through to the Knockouts.
And then, interestingly, John Legend agreed with what she was saying, sharing that teammates do make strong bonds. An example is two former teammates of his who actually got married.
He didn’t say who, so Parade did a little digging and it turned out that it was Season 19’s John Holiday and Rio Souma (real name DeMario Adams).

Holiday, of course, did well on the show, finishing in fifth place on his season. His version of “Misty” for his Blind Audition was a three-chair turn: Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Gwen Stefani, with Legend blocking Kelly to land Holiday on his team.
Rio didn’t fare as well. He made it to Team Legend, but then he was eliminated during his Battle with Casmé on “You’re All I Need to Get By.”
Back in 2021, Parade spoke to Holiday about the release of his debut crossover pop single “Alive in Me,” a song about love surviving through all challenges.

At that time, he told us that since he was a young, gay Black kid, he had searched for something that “represented love and that represented the ideal of searching for love and surrender.”
Surrender because Holiday believes that when you’re really in love with somebody, you surrender to the idea of love, and you surrender to your pursuit of what happiness is in your life. He knew because he had recently fallen in love and was engaged. Now we know that he was talking about Rio.

“Being able to do that is something that’s really, really important to me, to share and give love, to share that space, that energy of love and share it with everybody,” he said.
The couple got engaged in the summer of 2021, and married on July 30, 2022.
Before appearing on The Voice, Holiday was a renowned classical countertenor who performed with several opera companies around the world. Holiday is currently performing songs from the American Songbook—songs by songs by Florence Price, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, and more—at the Appel Room at Lincoln Center through April 12. In addition, Holiday currently serves as Associate Professor, Voice & Opera at The School of Music at The University of Maryland.
The Voice airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT and Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. Next day on Peacock.
