John Stamos Shares the Last Piece of Advice Bob Saget Ever Gave Him
John Stamos and Bob Saget
John Stamos learned a valuable lesson during his last night out with Bob Saget.
While the Full House alums dined with their wives prior to the comedian's untimely death at 65 years old, Saget offered his friend an unintentional, yet sage piece of advice when it comes to enjoying life with the people you love.
Nearly two years after his passing, in a preview of Stamos' upcoming interview with Sunday TODAY's Willie Geist, which airs on Nov. 5, the new author is letting fans in on that life lesson: "Order the cake."
It all stems from humanity's tendency to rush from one thing to the next, which Stamos reflected on as he looked back on that final meal with his late friend. “Well, we're always in a hurry to go somewhere next. It was the last dinner and you never think, ‘This is the last time I'm going to see my best friend,’ or, 'This is gonna be the last picture we ever took,'" he said.
Very sweetly, Stamos added, "He was everything that I wanted Bob to be at that moment.”
Throughout the course of their meal, the women broke off into their own conversation, allowing the "two saps" to discuss how "lucky" they were to have them in their lives. But eventually, Stamos felt like they'd spent enough time there and started to think, "We got to go."
But Saget slowed things down, suggesting, "Well, let's order the cake.”
It was in reference to an inappropriate joke he'd made earlier in the day, but as he pushed for coffee and dessert, Stamos realized, "...when you are with someone that you love, that you care about, slow down. Take it easy. Order the cake.”
Of all the stories he's heard about the late comedian, Geist says this one really sticks. So, when in doubt, order the cake.
