Many are now mourning after John Travolta announced on Instagram early Monday morning that his wife, Kelly Preston, had died at 57 years old.

A statement released from the family to People confirmed that the actress had been fighting breast cancer for two years privately and "undergoing medical treatment for some time."

Kelly is survived by John and their 20-year-old daughter, Ella, and 9-year-old son, Benjamin (their son Jett died in 2009).

"It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer. She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many," John wrote on his Instagram page. "My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side."

John's statement continued: "Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered. I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while. But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal. All my love, JT."

In reaction to the news, countless celebrities penned supportive words to John and his family online. Kevin Costner, who played her love interest in For the Love of the Game, reflected that "we've lost a beautiful soul."

Olivia Newton-John shared an old photo of herself with Kelly and a heartfelt message on her social media accounts.

"@therealkellypreston was a radiant, warm and gentle spirit - a loving, devoted wife, mother and sweet friend," Olivia's post read. "My heart breaks for John, Ella and Ben. No words can express my sorrow for her family. Kelly’s light shines on in her beautiful children. Xox"

Hours later, she also posted another photo with Kelly, highlighting their joint work on an initiative for the Children's Health Environmental Coalition (CHEC). "Thanks to Kelly’s passion to protect children’s health - from her own personal experience - she helped catapult the children’s environmental health campaign," Olivia wrote.

Russell Crowe recalled a moment on Twitter when he and Kelly auditioned for Breaking Up in 1995, noting that she was a "sparkly eyed gem."

Maria Shriver declared she was "shocked" by the news. "Kelly was such a bright loving soul, a talented actress, and a loving mom and wife. My heart breaks for her family who have already known such sadness and grief. Join me in sending them love and strength. #RIP #KellyPreston," she tweeted.

Rita Wilson posted a series of photos on Instagram with a moving caption: "@therealkellypreston Such a beautiful soul, sparkling eyes exuding kindness and strength. She found the joy in life. She loved fiercely. Loved her beautiful children Jett, Ella and Ben and loved her husband, @johntravolta. She was a blast to work with, made everything more fun. She always supported others. Please keep Kelly, John, Jett, Ella and Ben in your prayers. She will be so missed."

Other tributes came from her former co-stars. Spencer Breslin, who played her son in The Cat in the Hat, wrote, "RIP to my on screen mom, #kellypreston. What a lovely woman. Such a sad loss." Daniel Dae Kim tweeted,"I was lucky enough to work with her on one of my very first films, 'For Love of The Game.' We were shooting on cold days in Colorado, but she couldn’t have been warmer or kinder to a young, nervous actor trying to make good. I’ll never forget that. Thank you Kelly. #RestInPeace."

Meanwhile, several celebrities left comments on John's post, including Andy Cohen, Kat Graham, Mariah Carey, Chiara Ferragni, Maria Menounos, Nathalie Emmanuel, and more.

Similar kind words were left on Ella's Instagram tribute to her mother, as well.

Ella's post reads:

"I have never met anyone as courageous, strong, beautiful and loving as you. Anyone who is lucky enough to have known you or to have ever been in your presence will agree that you have a glow and a light that never ceases to shine and that makes anyone around you feel instantly happy. Thank you for being there for me no matter what. Thank you for your love. Thank you for your help and thank you for making this world a better place. You have made life so beautiful and I know you will continue to do so always. I love you so much mama.??"
