The California-based lifestyle brand, known for its bohemian embroideries and lush fabrications, launched Friday its first women’s denim collection.

The initial Johnny Was Denim line includes five fits—bootcut, boyfriend, slim boyfriend, baby boot and wide-leg—and a denim skirt. Spanning indigo, white and light pink washes, the line is designed to complement Johnny Was’ embroidered and vibrant print tops, tunics, silk kimonos and more.

Jeans are available in sizes 25-32. The skirt is available in XS-XL. The collection retails for $178-$198.

Though denim has been a part of Johnny Was’ seasonal collections, often as embroidered button-down shirts, embellished jeans or other novelty items, a full-fledged range of core jeans is new territory for the 37-year-old Oxford Industries, Inc.-owned brand.

The decision to take the official leap into jeanswear was driven by customer demand, according to the brand.

“As a lifestyle brand, we are dedicated to fostering expression, creativity, and individuality among our consumers. This denim launch marks another step forward in building upon our previous success in the category as we unveil fresh washes and innovative styles and continue to introduce a sprinkle of newness for our loyal audience,” said Sydnee Miller, Johnny Was director of global merchandising. “Our denim collection enables our customers to embrace head-to-toe dressing, offering a plethora of outfitting possibilities and enhancing their styling versatility.”

The brand said the line was “produced with a mindful and eco-friendly approach.” The jeans are finished with treatments that use 50 percent less water than traditional processes. All styles utilize natural wear patterns and dye processes, free from harmful chemicals.

“These practices are crucial to the brand in efforts to minimize its ecological footprint and safeguard the planet for present and future generations,” the brand stated.

Johnny Was Denim collection is available now at its retail stores and online store.
