‘Joker’ Receives the 2020 Academy Award for Best Original Score
The only thing as good as a film’s brilliant dialogue is the soundtrack that accompanies it.
The 92nd annual Academy Awards took place tonight at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, and Joker took home the highly coveted statuette for Best Original Score.
Other nominees included Little Women, Marriage Story, 1917 and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Joker leads the nominations this year with a whopping 11 nods total including Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Director. 1917 earned 10 total noms also including Best Director and Best Picture. Marriage Story and Little Women both earned six, while Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker landed a total of three.
During last year’s ceremony, Black Panther won the highly coveted award for this category. The film was up against BlacKkKlansman, If Beale Street Could Talk, Isle of Dogs and Mary Poppins Returns.
The Academy first debuted the Best Original Score (best substantial body of music in the form of dramatic underscoring written specifically for the film by the submitting composer) category back in 1934. Previous winners include The Shape of Water, La La Land, The Hateful Eight, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Gravity, Life of Pi and The Artist.
