Singer Jon Bon Jovi said that Prince Harry seemed “awesome” today as he met the Prince on one of his final engagements before he steps back as a working royal. Harry joined the musician at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in north west London where they recorded a special single with the Invictus Games Choir. The song, "Unbroken," was written by Jon Bon Jovi to shine a spotlight on veterans living with post traumatic stress disorder and this charity version will be released in March ahead of the next Invictus Games in May.

When asked how he thought Harry was doing, Bon Jovi replied: “He seems awesome. And he’s so involved in the lives of these soldiers and their stories, and of course he can relate to them because he is one of them. They loved their time with him where they could be open and honest, which was pretty cool. They were talking-to him like one of their mates, which I was a little surprised by...They all felt like they were part of the same team.”

Bon Jovi, whose parents were in the military, shared how he wrote the song for a documentary in the US about PTSD. “I finished the song, I thought I got it right. Truthfully on parallel course I thought, I want to send it to Harry for the Invictus Games because I was aware of the choir and to have real soldiers singing the song I thought would bring a lot of attention to the issue," he said.

"And so I just wrote him a letter and I said, ‘I’ve got this song, I’ve sung with your brother, I’ve met your father, your grandmother, your grandfather.’ And so I said listen to it and let me know and this is my idea. And so he said absolutely.”

He added that the goal was for the British team to sing the song at the next Invictus Games but that the other countries competing may also enjoy it. “It will bring attention to the plight of the service member who is going through this,” he said.

Invictus Games Choir member Andy Mudd, 63, from York, was a military policeman when he lost both his legs after being blown up by an IRA bomb planted in his car in 1989. He told T&C about recording the song with the choir, “It’s a pinch yourself moment. We’re in the best studios in the world...”

“The words of the song as well...This song brings a few things together. It’s about the mental fight that you’ve got to get back. We’re not broken, we are Unbroken,” he continued.

“It’s important that we’ve got a goal to go from our original injured state. And that song made me think about lying in hospital, you realize that you’re in serious trouble. And from there you build yourself up.”

Bon Jovi sang "Livin’ On A Prayer" with Prince William and Taylor Swift at a 2013 charity gala. When asked which brother was the better singer, he diplomatically replied, “They both have a set of pipes. They really do.”
