Jon and Sansa make up in first Game of Thrones season 8 teaser
Winter is coming, and spring isn't soon after, which means that the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones is fast approaching – and now, for the first time, we've seen a glimpse of what is to come.
The American network that produces the blockbuster fantasy drama, HBO, has released footage from the forthcoming series which shows a steely-eyed Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) embracing at the family castle, Winterfell.
The final series of HBO's golden goose is set to air in April 2019 and will feature six episodes, which are reported to each be feature-length.
The reunion between Jon and Sansa proves that, as expected, the action in the series will move North towards the wall where the families of the seven kingdoms will likely unite to fight the ultimate threat to humanity – the white walkers led by the terrifying Night King.
The teaser also features old footage from previous seasons, including Jon and Daenerys' first meeting with Cersei Lannister, who currently sits on the Iron Throne.
Ardent fans have been quick to suspect the reason why Sansa may be glaring over Jon's shoulder while the pair embrace, and some have sugessted it may hint at tension between Sansa and his new lover Daenerys.
Game of Thrones is one of the most successful television series of all time and has broken records for US cable network HBO, so it should come as no surprise that a prequel to the series, Age of Heroes, is already in production.
The teaser was part of a short showcase of HBO's content for the next year. It also includes a glimpse of the second series of Big Little Lies, the third series of True Detective, Veep, and other new premieres set for release next year.
