Joplin group plans fun-filled STEAM projects for families this summer
JOPLIN, Mo. — Imagination exploration is the goal as a Joplin group plans a wide range of kid-friendly projects this summer.
It’s the summer of STEAM for the Creative Learning Alliance in Joplin.
“It’s a very busy summer. So even though we can’t let people in the building – we want to do all summer that we could do so we could still be bringing that STEAM learning to the families of the Four States,” said Neely Myers, Creative Learning Alliance exec. dir.
The coming weeks will highlight a wide range of science, technology, engineering, art and math themes for the Creative Learning Alliance.
That includes a couple of very summery themes.
“In July, we’ll be doing Water Fest out here after we do with the spider and pregnant families. And then in August, of course, it’s Dog Days of Summer so we’re gonna get some pet-themed activity. What I really love to do is have vets office out there and kids can play with – that would be fun,” said Myers.
Dinosaurs will be in focus in August… covering paleontology, archeology, and botany.
“For the most part, you won’t need to register ahead of time. For the dinosaurs – you will just because we want to make sure that we have enough supplies for the families that are coming. And I sometimes I say for the kiddos that are coming – the moms and dads get just as invested as the kids do,” said Myers.
We’re barely a week away from the next project, called “You Bee-long Here.”
That coincides with Third Thursday next week for learning opportunities centering around the importance of bees.
