Jordin Sparks is 'looking forward to sleepless nights' when baby comes — with a smile on her face

For Jordin Sparks, it’s impossible to decide which part of becoming a parent is most exciting. She’ll find out when the baby boy she’s expecting with husband, Dana Isaiah, is born in the spring.

“I’ve always loved kids. I always thought that I would have them, and I was just like, ‘One day it’ll happen.’ I was very surprised,” she explains to Yahoo with a laugh, three months after revealing her pregnancy and her under-the-radar wedding. “I just didn’t think it was going to happen now. But I’m excited about all of it.”

And she means it. Sparks, who’s gone through a tough time lately, always seems to look at the bright side.

“I know there’s going to be a lot of crazy, sleepless nights, and a lot of fatigue and being tired,” the singer says. “But at the same time, I’m looking forward to that too, because I know it’s going to be worth it.”

Besides, the singer, 28, has already had happy experiences with little ones.

“My brother has been married for a few years and has two kids,” Sparks says, “and so I’ve been watching them, and just seeing them grow and seeing how fascinated they are with everything, the wonder in their eyes…”

Now Sparks is supporting Operation Smile, an international nonprofit that provides surgery and restores the smiles of children born with a cleft palate or other facial deformities. The organization, which she’s worked with for years, is the beneficiary of a partnership with Lay’s. From Feb. 12 through April 7, the company will make a donation to Operation Smile, up to $1 million total, every time someone purchases a specially designed bag of Lay’s. New Yorkers also can visit the Lay’s Smiles Experience in Times Square to design their own bag, resulting in another donation.

“Smiling is one of my favorite things to do,” Sparks says. “I’m always smiling. Like, I remember that my husband, one of the first things he said to me was that I was too smiley! So that’s just something that I do.”

Sparks’s model husband is often the one making her happy, day in and day out, so the upcoming holiday that’s all about love isn’t something they’ll turn into a big deal. On their first Valentine’s Day as a married couple, Sparks says they’ll catch a Nets game before Isaiah plays in a basketball game at a special event.

“He’s so thoughtful, and he thinks about me all the time, so Valentine’s Day is just kind of another day,” Sparks says. “If it was a little bit different, if it was never like that, then I’d be hoping that something would happen on Valentine’s Day. But he surprises me with flowers, and he does sweet things for me all the time. And it was never a big deal to me before we met.”
