The jujube is the new superfood that's about to take over social media
Superfood this, superfood that. The term gets bandied around way too much.
But hold the presses, because this new fruit may well just earn the title.
The jujube — otherwise known as the red date — is being hailed as the new superfood (or superfruit, if you want to be precise).
Consumed for thousands of years in the Far East, it’s believed to have tons of health and wellness benefits.
The red fruit is jam-packed with vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients, and contains 18 of the 24 amino acids the human body needs to make protein, which is quite a lot.
Jujubes are also adaptogens, meaning they can help reduce stress and anxiety as well as boost your mood.
A recent study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology even found that the fruit can help fight breast cancer cells.
What’s more, they actually tastes good, unlike a lot of superfoods. They are sweet, so you can eat jujubes alone or use them as a natural sweetener for teas and cooking.
The only people who should probably avoid the jujube are those who have diabetes. The reason? They’re full of complex carbs that can wreak havoc on your blood-sugar levels.
Enjoy Instagramming them and dumbfounding your friends. All hail the jujube.
