Julia Fox Calls Kanye West Relationship a 'Weird, Twisted Game'
Kanye West, Julia Fox
Julia Fox previously suggested she was going to go "very lightly on" her brief relationship with Kanye West in her new memoir, but the Uncut Gems actress appears to have gone ahead and spilled the nitty-gritty after all.
Released on Tuesday, Oct. 10, Down the Drain reportedly details a whirlwind relationship that she says was more like a "weird, twisted game," according to Page Six.
Their time together lasted less than two months in early 2022 and was something Fox wrote that she originally tried to push away.
The 33-year-old had recently broken up with her ex-husband and father of her 2-year-old son Valentino, Peter Artemiev, but allowed a friend to pass her number along to West after "the artist"—which is the only moniker she uses for the rapper throughout the book—expressed interest. She says she quickly received a text message “followed by dozens of phone calls,” but she spent most of that time listening to him, only “occasionally chiming in."
She declined West's invitation to spend New Year's Eve in Miami with him after hours of one-sided conversations, but he chartered a flight for her and her friends, kicking off their viral coupling.
She met him in person for the first time in a loud Miami club where talking was impossible. Things seemed to heat up very quickly before West led her outside, where he promptly peed on the wall of the parking lot before kissing her "passionately."
They headed to a party next, where she said one of West's friends told her off for dancing, and had dinner at Carbone the next day, where Ye asked her to be his girlfriend and then noted he'd need to hire stylists for her as a photographer snapped away.
When she woke up the next morning to a text from a reporter from the publication who had come into possession of the photos, she wondered if West had been the one to leak the shots.
Within days they were at Carbone in New York, where he had reportedly orchestrated racks of clothing to be waiting for her in the bathroom. She tried on outfit after outfit as another photographer watched on, making her feel like a "show monkey.” When she tried even more clothes on at his hotel later that night, expressing discomfort in the way one top fit, she wrote that West offered to get her a boob job.
She felt "dirty" after he sent the photos to Interview magazine, asking her to write a paragraph about their meeting. “I feel like he’s using me in some weird, twisted game," she wrote—and that was just within the first several days.
He'd go on to try to get her and her friends to sign an NDA, which she said she refused, before heading to Paris together. There, he allegedly shared with Fox everything he found annoying about her.
A few days later, she was already at the venue where her birthday party was being held when she said she was called to the other side of town to try on clothes that had been pre-approved by West, where he eventually showed up with a slew of Birkin bags for her and her friends, the reveal of which he had photographed over and over.
“As we pose like puppets, I question his true intentions, feeling that this grand gesture is nothing more than a publicity stunt,” she recalled. He spent the rest of the night ignoring her at the club.
She texted him to break up the next morning. “If you loved me, you would support me,” she said he wrote back, going on to call and talk about a recent conversation he had with ex-wife Kim Kardashian.
He then attacked her for her history of drug addiction, lashing out, “I didn’t know you were a drug addict.” Fox was shocked, having already warned him of her history.
Soon after, he sent a slew of messages about her unsigned NDA, telling her, “I can’t be friends with you if you don’t sign it.”
“I’ll live,” she said in response.
Today, Fox lives it up in outfits of her own choosing, while West has been parading around Europe with his new wife, Bianca Censori.
