Here's everything you need to know about this inspiring new campaign, which is expected to reach a whopping 300 million people on Instagram.
What is #ShareTheMicNow?
#ShareTheMicNow is a social media campaign in which 46 Black women will take over the accounts of 46 influential white women in an effort to amplify Black female voices and their contributions to creating change.
The mission statement for #ShareTheMicNow reads, "When the world listens to women, it listens to white women. For far too long, Black women's voices have gone unheard, even though they've been using their voices loudly for centuries to enact change. Today, more than ever, it is NECESSARY that we create a unifying action to center Black women's lives, stories, and calls to action. We need to listen to Black women."
When will the campaign happen?
#ShareTheMicNow will take place on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 on Instagram. The campaign comes as citizens in all 50 states and several countries around the world are taking to the streets to protest police brutality and the horrific death of George Floyd on May 25.
What is the goal of #ShareTheMicNow?
The #ShareTheMicNow organizers shared four goals for the movement:
To form a social media campaign that magnifies Black women’s lives and stories.
To form relationships among Black women and white women - so that our future activism is born from relationships.
To create a network of disruptors who know and trust each other.
To create action that could make change.
