Julian Edelman Is Looking Fast and Ripped in New Training Footage
Football season might not begin until September, but from the look of things, Julian Edelman is ready to go right now. In a series of new clips taken from a recent training session, the New England Patriots wide receiver shows off his speed and mobility—not to mention a lean, shredded shirtless torso—while going through his drills.
The first two videos show just how fast and precise Edelman can be on his feet, while the third sees him effortlessly catching tennis balls as they bounce back off a wall. The fourth clip, though, is what stunned viewers: Edelman demonstrates some Jedi-like, lightning-fast reflexes and coordination here, catching playing cards mid-air, one after the other.
The videos were shared on Instagram by performance consultant Zac Emde, who explained to impressed fans in the comments that those card tosses were his idea. "When you got an old dog," he joked, "you sometimes gotta throw in some new tricks."
This is far from the first glimpse fans have had of Edelman as he gets ready for the 2020 season. In April, he teamed up with Planet Fitness to host a live workout session on Facebook Live (one of several star athletes to pivot to live-streaming fitness coach during the pandemic). More recently, he posted a shirtless thirst trap of himself wearing a face mask during training.
The Pats might have lost two of their biggest names to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this year (Tom Brady signed with them in March, followed by his teammate and good pal Rob Gronkowski in April), but if Edelman's offseason is anything to go by, the remaining players' dedication isn't in any doubt.
