July is National Ice Cream Month: Westchester, Rockland, Putnam shops to find your flavor

It's hot!

And that means ice cream! July is National Ice Cream Month with July 21 deemed the official National Ice Cream Day. But with this heat, there's no need to wait to indulge in the lower Hudson Valley's many twists and flavors.

If you want to try something new, there are seven recent additions to the Westchester/Rockland scene. Those include Pros and Cones in Mamaroneck; Penny Lick's third location in Ossining; Bona Bona's second spot in Baldwin Place; Froze Peekskill, where Hudson Creamery had been; Mama Mia Dessert Bar in Rye Brook featuring Japanese ice cream and Longford's in Armonk, which opened last month.

Plus in Nanuet, there's Robin's Creamery where you'll find soft serve matcha, taro and ube ice cream.

And don't forget Green + Tonic in Rye Brook is offering a special oat milk-based sundae created by yours truly (your intrepid food reporter) until the end of the summer with a portion of proceeds going to Feeding Westchester, which provides nutritious food to those in need. (Ask for "Jeanne's lohud sundae.")
