Just for Kidz looking for community support after years of service
Apr. 4—CORBIN — Just for Kidz, a group which has provided free items to children in the Corbin area and beyond for years, is now asking for the support of the community.
"Just for Kidz Free Corbin and surrounding" is the name of the Facebook group that was started by Tracy Watson in 2020.
Watson, having just gotten on her feet, found it prudent to begin distributing the old clothes of her children to others online who were in need.
As the pandemic began, the group experienced a sudden influx of members who were looking to support their children during trying times.
The group works by parents posting their children's old clothing and promoting it so that a parent in need may see it.
Watson estimates that as of April 2024, 12,000 parents have been aided by the group, with more joining by the day.
However, due to the rapid expansion of the group, it has become difficult for Watson to effectively reach everyone.
Due to this, she is now asking for help from the community.
In an interview, Watson listed three things that the group could benefit substantially from:
—a room or building from which to operate from;
—a mobile trailer that would allow her to travel to people in need for deliveries; and
—aid in acquiring a non-profit status which would allow them to expand their activities further.
Watson believes that expanding the group is of great importance.
"Our goal is to have a Just For Kidz in every county so each Just for Kidz can work together to help families moving county to county or maybe a parent is on the run for safety we can reach out to another county to help them to safety with a community there welcoming and helping them and waiting on them with all our team from every county working together," she said. "The importance of this group is families finding faith and love in each other, leading parents to stand together. If we all create a place where we all post our unwanted items for free and shop what others post to replace it we all get blessed beyond measure."
