  • He also discussed the difficult nature and pressures in growing up as a child star.

  • Celebrities including Scooter Braun, Khloe Kardashian, and more commended him for opening up in his comments section.

It’s been nearly four years since Justin Bieber released a new album, but the 25-year-old singer is still constantly in the news. After marrying Hailey Baldwin earlier this year, Bieber is now opening up about his past indiscretions—including drug abuse and relationship abuse—detailing in a lengthy Instagram post how he’s learned to adapt, change, and move forward in his life.

In a Monday Instagram post, Bieber shared a screenshot of a lengthy personal message he'd typed in the Notes app. "Hope you find time to read this it's from my heart," he wrote in the caption. His note went deep on a number of topics, including his use of "pretty heavy drugs" starting at age 19, and a series of bad decisions that saw him become "resentful, disrespectful to women, and angry."

The message begins with Bieber describing the difficulty of getting out of bed in the morning when he's reminded of his troublesome past:

It's hard to get out of bed in the morning with the right attitude when you you are overwhelmed with your life your past, job, responsibilities, emotions, your family, finances, your relationships. When it feels like there's trouble after trouble after trouble. You start foreseeing the day through lenses of "dread" and anticipate another bad day. A cycle of feeling disappointment after disappointment. Sometimes it can even get to the point where you don't even want to live anymore. Where you feel like it's never going to change.

Later, the singer wrote about how child stars often find themselves in murky waters as they grow older and out of their initial stardom. He talked about going from a child in an unstable home with separated parents, to being one of the most praised people in the world: "I don't know about you, but humility comes with age," he wrote. "You hear these things as a young boy and actually start believing it." He also discussed the shift in his public perception—how by age 20, "I made every bad decision you could have thought of and went from from one of the most loved and adored people in the world to the most ridiculed, judged and hated person in the world!"

From there, Bieber wrote about his drug abuse and unhealthy relationships—but eventually, he revealed that he's bounced back, repaired his broken relationships, and changed his bad habits.

In his own words:

I started doing pretty heavy drugs at 19 and abused all of my relationships. I Became resentful, disrespectful to women, and angry. I became distant to everyone who loved me, and i was hiding behind, a shell of a person that i had become. i felt like i could never turn it around. It's taken my years to bounce back from all these terrible decisions, fix broken relationships, and change relationship habits. Luckily god blessed me with extraordinary people who love me for me. Now i am navigating the best season of my life "MARRIAGE" !! Which is a an amazing crazy new responsibility. You learn patience, trust, commitment, kindness, humility and all of the things it looks like to be a good man.

Bieber's longtime manager Scooter Braun and Khloe Kardashian were among those to commend the singer for his revealing post. One commenter who could relate to Bieber's child-star plight stood out in particular: Kyle Massey, the actor most famous for paying Raven Symone's brother on Disney Channel's That's So Raven.

"This is so powerful," Massey wrote. "I experienced ups and downs in my life being a 'celebrity' and the point of view of the child Star is one most people and media ignore."
