Justin Bieber questioned by police for apparent security tag on shoe: 'It's just fashion'
Justin Bieber is calling out Virgil Abloh after a pair of the designer’s sneakers nearly got the singer in some trouble.
The 25-year-old took to his Instagram stories on Wednesday to share some details about a recent run-in with a cop that had everything to do with the kicks he was wearing, which allegedly looked to be stolen. According to Bieber, a cop had seen him walking around (an undisclosed location) in his Off-White X Nike Air Max 90 sneakers and stopped to ask about the tag hanging off of them.
“Virgil, my god, bro. You freaking — you’re killing me, man!” Bieber is heard saying in the video, playfully calling out the designer. “I just had a cop come up to me and ask me why I still had the security tag on my shoe.”
Bieber of course clarified the zip-tie detail for the cop, saying “Bro, it’s just fashion.” Still, the cop told him: “It sure looks like a security tag.”
Abloh’s limited time collaboration with Nike has certainly turned some heads because of the unusual details like the permanent plastic hang tag that is secured to the shoe’s lace. But this may just be the first that the sneakers got somebody stopped by the police.
