Justin Timberlake Surprised the Super Bowl Selfie Kid on "Ellen"

From Good Housekeeping

Ryan McKenna became the viral star of the Super Bowl after taking a selfie with Justin Timberlake during his halftime show. And if that wasn't cool enough, the 13-year-old got to meet Ellen DeGeneres on her show - and, to his surprise, talk to Timberlake, too.

Ryan told DeGeneres that his dad surprised him with the Super Bowl tickets two weeks before the game, and the die-hard New England Patriots fan cried in excitement. And he said he didn't even know Timberlake would be in his area during his performance. But when Timberlake did show up, he pushed through the crowd to get the perfect selfie - and it paid off.

But before that big moment, it took a little time for him to unlock his phone, making him the subject of countless Internet jokes. "Yeah, the memes, I've seen those," Ryan said with a smile.

But after telling his story, DeGeneres had Timberlake call in to surprise Ryan, and he teared up immediately. "It's nice to meet you, finally," Timberlake joked. "It was so unexpected that you came down and because all of this has happened, I really want to meet you properly." Timberlake invited Ryan and his family to come to his concert to meet him in person - and to take a second selfie together. The NFL even gave his family a VIP experience to a Patriots home game.

So even though the McKennas might be sad their team lost, this surely makes up for it - until next season, that is.
