Kansas City food trucks stay open during extreme heat
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The high temps aren’t stopping a family owned food truck in Kansas City from serving its customers.
Luis Lezama is the owner of Miranda’s Mexican Food Truck. He’s working when temperatures in the city feel like it’s over 100 degrees.
“Right now, it’s 98 degrees and a couple of hours ago we went up to 108, so a little hot in here,” Lezama said.
“We have family to support and bills to pay overall,” he continued.

He’s thankful when Mother Nature returns the favor with a little wind, because the heat, isn’t as forgiving.
“We have a couple floor fans,” he said. “That’s the only way we can keep ourselves a little cool.”
The truck sits on the corner of Southwest Boulevard and Roanoke Road in KCMO.
While it doesn’t see as many customers on hot days, people who are also working when it’s hot can stop by for a meal.
“The people that we see more often, even on the hottest days, roofers and people working outside like construction,” Lezama said.
Staying hydrated is important, as is turning off the grill when it’s not in use. He’s added shade for customers on the patio but even days like Tuesday, it’s sometimes not enough.

Lezama said he’s patiently waiting for a carport to come in to help keep everyone cool.
