These Kansas routes ranked among best in U.S. for a summer excursion in 2024
Are you still interested in planning a road trip for your family or friend group before the summer ends?
Two Kansas routes were ranked in the top 100 to take for a summer road trip by Gunther Mitsubishi, a Mitsubishi car dealer in Coconut Creek, Florida. The routes include Topeka to Manhattan (No. 94) and Lawrence to Dodge City (No. 121)
The specifics of each route weren't clarified by Gunther Mitsubishi, but The Capital-Journal referenced Google Maps for road trip distances. We also include unique overnight places where you can enjoy the final destination city.
Topeka to Manhattan
Distance: If traveling along Interstate 70 West, Topeka to Manhattan is about a 54-minute drive for a total of 58.1 miles. If traveling along US-24 highway, Google Maps estimates your drive to be a total of 1 hour, 5 minutes. (Assuming you don't pause your drive for a break.)
Where to stay: Along with sightseeing the Kansas State University campus, visitors have the opportunity to stay at the Konza Cabin, priced at $165 a night on Airbnb.com. This is a unique lodging and agricultural experience located in the Flint Hills. It accommodates up to four guests.
The cabin is constructed from reclaimed grain bins connected with an all-glass atrium, the Airbnb description said. Guests are welcome to hike around the property, interact with livestock and horses, and have access to the pond for catch-and-release fishing only.
Lawrence to Dodge City
Distance: If traveling along Interstate 70, your trip will be about 4 hours, 43 minutes. The trip will be 4 hours, 46 minutes if traveling along US-50 highway 50 or 4 hours, 55 minutes if traveling along Interstate 35.
Where to stay: If you'd prefer to stay somewhere unique rather than hotels and motels in Dodge City, the Cottage on Boot Hill might be a place to consider.

The Cottage on Boot Hill, priced at $200 — or slightly more a night on Airbnb.com — this cottage accommodates up to four guests with its homey-atmosphere and nearby local coffee shops and attractions. It is located in downtown Dodge City and provides a luxurious spa-like bathroom, with a dual rainfall shower system, plush resort towels, and lavender and aromatherapy toiletries, its description said.
Gunther Mitsubishi's rankings were conducted by an online survey in May with 3,000 Americans. Survey participants ranged in gender, geography and age.
