People has dedicated its issue this week to how much Kate Middleton is changing behind the scenes in her role as duchess and future queen. The Duchess of Cambridge is becoming much more confident and vocal about what she wants, a family friend said. “She is now more open with what she wants to say, and funnily enough, she is more relaxed as well,” the source said.

The new Kate—who writes her own speeches and has leaned into her advocacy work helping mothers and children—has impressed those working with the royal family. “She is an adoring mother, and she is contributing publicly in the way we would want her to,” a source close to the royal household said. “You see it more and more. The young student has turned into our future Queen.”

The outlet hasn't specified how Kate's relationship with her sister-in-law Meghan Markle is going yet. But a source told ELLE.com in March that the Duchess of Cambridge wanted to make Meghan's transition into the royal family as seamless as possible. Kate has been “a wonderful support to Meghan, with advice about protocol and life inside the Firm," a royal insider said then. "Any transition is difficult, let alone one into an institution steeped in tradition and history."

In July, ELLE.com was told by a source that Kate and Meghan have become closer since little Archie was born in May. “Catherine and Meghan enjoy seeing each other, and motherhood has definitely brought them closer together,” the source said.
