Kate Middleton Confronted a DJ Over His Princess Charlotte Joke
Kate Middleton and Prince William weren't happy with a radio host who mentioned Princess Charlotte during his morning show.
According to BBC Radio 1's Greg James, the duke and duchess spoke to him about his joke.
James had made fun of the fact that Charlotte had to shake her teacher's hand on the first day of school.
If you're going to make a joke about Princess Charlotte, think twice. According to the BBC's Greg James, he made the mistake of mentioning the little royal on his breakfast radio show, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge weren't best pleased.
Of course, Princess Charlotte started school earlier this year, and was dropped off by both of her parents. When the little royal arrived, she was greeted by one of her teachers, who shook her hand.
The BBC Radio 1 host told The Mirror, "I saw the photo during the show and said, ‘Who the hell shakes hands with their teacher on the first day?’"
And according to James, he had no idea that his comment would cause an issue. However, the radio host was invited to Kensington Palace weeks later for the Radio 1 Teen Heroes celebration, where he came face to face with Charlotte's mom and dad.
Per James, Kate and William said, "We were listening on the morning of little Charlotte’s first day, and we want to talk to you about the handshaking thing..." Apparently the DJ was horrified that they'd heard his comment and replied, "Oh God, no!"
Unfortunately for James, the embarrassment didn't end there. Per the BBC Radio 1 star, "They’d heard me saying this school was so posh they had to shake hands with their teacher every day. They were not like that in my day. You were pleased if you got a smile."
As for how he left things with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, James ruefully said, "I’m sure it’s all absolutely fine..."
