Kate Middleton’s Latest Public Outing Would Have Made Princess Diana So Proud
Kate Middleton is known for a lot of things: Her whirlwind romance with Prince William, her totally relatable mom moments, her iconic style, and her empathy. That last one would have made her mother-in-law extremely proud. Kate — much like Princess Diana — is constantly involved in the community, working with philanthropic organizations, and/or visiting sick children in the hospital. That last one would have been especially meaningful to Princess Diana who was known for doing the same and famously hugged a child with AIDS at the height of the epidemic.
Yesterday the Princess of Wales opened a new day surgery unit at Evelina London Children’s Hospital in London, and her visits with families were so touching. As the mom of Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, she was really able to connect with the parents.

“It’s always nerve-wracking as a parent; I’ve taken mine into hospital for different things,” she said to one family in the pre-op area. “You’re always at least worried but you’ve got a great team (here).”
She then spoke to another family in the recovery section. There was a mom of a 4-year-old who admitted she had been anxious about her daughter’s surgery even though it was considered a relatively minor procedure.
“It’s always a worry though for a parent. We have to keep our cool. It’s so hard.”
It really is so hard when you’re trying to manage so many emotions while trying to remain positive for your kid. Kate recently revealed a mental health activity that Prince Louis does in school that is helping his social-emotional learning and development.
“Louis’ class, they came back with a feelings wheel — it’s really good. These are 5 or 6-year-olds and going with names or pictures of a color that represents how they feel that day, so there is a real keenness in school particularly to get involved in conversations,” she said. “It’s actually helping continuity across the board and then how does that feed into you, with your mental health — it’s the same conversation, so to be able to find a bit of framework to talk about this, is very important.”
We have no doubt that Princess Diana would also be incredibly proud of her grandson for being in-tune with his mental health and emotions — even if that emotion is sometimes straight-up boredom.
These relatable moments show that Kate Middleton may be a royal mom — but she’s a regular mom too.
