Kate Middleton wows in Princess Diana's tiara and a Jenny Packham gown

Kate Middleton wore Princess Diana’s pearl-and-diamond tiara and earrings for the queen’s annual diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday night.

Kate attended the white-tie bash with husband Prince William in a floor-length organza gown by Jenny Packham with subtle sequin embellishments and short sleeves.

This is the sixth time Kate has worn the glittering headpiece, which is sometimes referred to as the Cambridge Lover’s Knot. It was commissioned by Queen Mary in 1914 and made by Garrard & Co.

It was passed down to her granddaughter Queen Elizabeth II, who then gave it to daughter-in-law Diana as a wedding present in 1981.

Kate teamed the tiara with another tribute to Diana: her Collingwood diamond-and-pearl drop earrings. They were given to the royal as a wedding present from Collingwood jewelers.

The duchess wore the earrings back in October for the Netherlands state banquet, with an ice blue Alexander McQueen gown. She also wore the Royal Family Order — a personal gift from the queen — for a third time.

On Wednesday she will fly to a military base in Cyprus with Prince William to meet with serving personnel, families living on the base and members of the local community. They will deliver presents and cards to them from their families.
