Kate Middleton's Favorite Celebrity That She's Met is... David Attenborough
Kate Middleton has met a lot of famous people in her time, but apparently, none of them have anything on David Attenborough.
The Duchess revealed this interesting tidbit during a recent video call with Casterton Primary Academy. (The royals have been going digital amid the coronavirus crisis.) Anita Ghidotti, Chief Executive of the Pendle Trust, told Hello that it was the children at the school who were curious. "The kids also asked them what the best famous person was that they had met—something I bet they don’t get asked very often!" Ghidotti recalled. "The Duchess said that George has been watching lots of David Attenborough, Blue Planet and the like, so that would probably be hers."
Kate has met Attenborough on multiple occasions, most recently at the naming ceremony of the RRS Sir David Attenborough, a polar research ship. "It gives me great pleasure to name this ship Sir David Attenborough, and may God bless her and all those who sail in her," Kate said while christening the boat.
The Duchess is hardly the only royal to express some Attenborough fandom. Clearly, Prince George likes him, as Kate said he's been watching so many of his documentaries. But Attenborough's relationship with the Windsors goes back much farther: he's the same age as Queen Elizabeth, and they've enjoyed a long friendship. Prince Charles first met him as a child, during a 1958 tour of the BBC Television Studios, and continues to sing Attenborough's praises. For his part, Prince William has called the naturalist a "national treasure."
