Katharine McPhee is not interested in your opinions about her engagement to a man twice her age
Thirty-four-year-old Katharine McPhee’s engagement to 68-year-old David Foster is unconventional, and she really doesn’t care what people think about it.
The American Idol alum shut down haters in a tweet on Friday, reminding her followers that there are more important things going on than the fact that she’s marrying a man 34 years her senior. “Y’all should be worrying more about registering to vote and midterm elections than who’s marrying me,” McPhee tweeted. “Thank you for coming to my TED talk.”

Plenty of fans responded with words of praise (and mic drop GIFs) for McPhee’s statement. Even Chrissy Teigen got in on the action, tweeting, “What if we plan on writing in the person you choose to marry.”

I LOVE YOU!!!

You look happy! That’s all that matters. Don’t let the haters get to you. They have no idea what love really is ??

Not everyone was happy with McPhee’s tweet (and engagement news), though. Some people who responded to the tweet pointed out that the musician and Grammy-winning producer already has four ex-wives. Of course, that doesn’t mean that his upcoming marriage to McPhee won’t last, but that hasn’t stopped people from weighing in about their relationship.
Hope his 5th marriage & 8th engagement works out!

Big mistake marrying a 5 time loser! Unless you're a gold digger and in that case, good luck! Very disappointing.

Foster’s most recent marriage was to Yolanda Hadid, and their divorce was finalized in October 2017. The two had announced their separation nearly two years before that, People notes.
Hadid was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2012 and has been outspoken about the chronic pain she experienced as a result. In August 2017, Hadid told People that the disease affected her marriage to Foster. “All of a sudden all of the things we shared, all of the things we used to love to do together, go for walks in the morning, having a studio in the house and blasting music all day, having dinner parties, that all shut down,” Hadid told the magazine. “I couldn’t participate in that life anymore.” After the divorce, Hadid dated Matt Minnis, though they’ve since broken up.
Before Hadid, Foster had previous marriages to Linda Thompson, Rebecca Dyer, and B.J. Cook. He has eight children from his former relationships, Entertainment Tonight reports.
McPhee and Foster have a somewhat awkward history, too. Foster performed at McPhee’s first wedding in 2008, when she married Nick Cokas. McPhee filed for divorce from Cokas in May 2014.

McPhee confirmed her engagement to Foster earlier this week, sharing on Instagram that Foster proposed on a mountain in Anacapri, Italy.

A quick scroll through McPhee’s recent Instagram posts shows a number of negative comments, but it looks like she’s not bothered by the hate. McPhee’s most recent Instagram story shows her getting ready for the Broadway musical Waitress, in which she’s currently starring. The couple know that their engagement won’t make everyone happy — but as long as the two of them are happy, that’s really all that matters.
