Katharine McPhee Shares 'Really Impressive' Musical Update for Toddler Son Rennie

Katharine McPhee's little boy is proving to be just as musical as his parents but in his own way.
While speaking with E! News, McPhee, 39, revealed that her two-year-old son Rennie, whom she shares with husband David Foster, 73, has started developing a passion for music. But while his mother is a singer-songwriter and his father a composer, Rennie is drawn towards drumming.
"I would say that the drumming thing has been a continuous theme in his life since he was 14 months, but he's hit another level in his drumming that is really impressive," McPhee noted.
She went on, emphasizing how casually Rennie's skill for drumming developed, "People have been more impressed than I think we have been. We're like, 'Oh yeah, he really loves it. It's good. We don't know if it'll be a real thing.' But now I'm going, 'Hmmm, this might be a real thing.'"
McPhee also touched on what she and Foster hope for Rennie in the future: "I would love for him to follow in his dad's footsteps and just be really well-versed in all different types of musical instruments."
"Obviously, he's two and a half. We're not pushing him. We're just letting him do his thing. But, I would love for him to have a working understanding of all instruments a lot like his dad. I think he's on his way—that's for sure," she went on.
The "Over It" singer also opened up about all of the little aspects of parenthood that she's really enjoying these days, such as picking Rennie up from school. She told the publication, "To me, that is so fun because he says, 'You're back! You're back!' He's so happy that I'm there, and that's not gonna be forever that I get to do that."
McPhee and Foster got married in 2019, and they welcomed Rennie, their first child together, in 2021.
