Katharine McPhee Won’t Be Dragged Into Russell Brand Drama After Resurfaced Clip
Katharine McPhee will not be part of any debates or rumors about Russell Brand after a clip of the two interacting on a talk show went viral.
After sexual assault allegations against Brand came out in The Times on Sept. 16, people are looking back at a video of Brand's actions during an appearance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon in 2013 with McPhee as a fellow guest. In response, the singer and actress shut down claims that she looked "uncomfortable" during the interaction.
“I know nothing [about] what you are trying to claim here but this specific incident was over 10 years ago and it was harmless," she responded to an Instagram post about the video posted by Daily Mail. "Please don’t try and use me for whatever purpose you are trying to serve."
In the clip, McPhee walked on stage as Brand finished his interview, and host Jimmy Fallon told the comedian to move out of the main seat.
Instead, McPhee sat on Brand's lap right as he said, "Katharine is welcome to sit here," with Brand hugging her and holding her hips. Brand then stood up and moved aside, telling McPhee, “You’re beautiful," before adding, "I’ll just be here with my sexual charisma."
The video gained renewed attention due to the bombshell accusations against Brand, with four different women accusing him of sexual assault. He attempted to get ahead of the news by releasing a video on Sept. 15 denying the allegations, claiming that although he was “very, very promiscuous” at the time the assaults allegedly took place, all of his relationships were "always consensual."
“I was always transparent about that then — almost too transparent," he said of past promiscuity. "And I’m being transparent about it now as well. And to see that transparency metastasized into something criminal, that I absolutely deny,
He further denied the accusations as a "coordinated media attack."
