Remember Prince Harry’s “wild phase”? If you don’t, Katie Couric definitely does and can refresh your memory if you’d like to grab a copy of her new memoir, Going There. Couric has been a professional journalist and host for more than 40 years now, interviewing some of the most famous and influential people on the planet. As you’d obviously expect, that’s plenty of time to collect plenty of juicy stories—enough to fill a book, in fact.

One of the celebrities Couric reportedly shares some goss about in Going There happens to be Prince Harry. Couric hung out with the royal at a polo match in Brazil in 2012, and during that trip, she also interviewed him for an ABC special about Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee, according to Newsweek.

According to the Daily Mail, Couric describes the encounter as going down during Harry’s “wild-oats-sowing phase,” before he transformed into the very respectable Duke of Sussex we all know and love today. The interview apparently took place just two months before Harry was photographed naked playing “strip billiards” in a hotel room in Las Vegas, and according to the Mail report, “the smell of cigarettes and alcohol seemed to ooze from every pore in his body” when Couric met with him.

Apparently, Couric described Harry as being “known for his cheeky sense of humor and love of partying a bit” but also added that “we got to see the warm and personal side when we talked about what his grandmother means to him.”

During that 2012 chat, Harry talked about his relationship with the Queen (the interview was about her Diamond Jubilee, after all) and also about his desire to start a family, which was clearly a priority for the royal even during his ~wildest~ days.

“I’ve longed for kids since I was very, very young,” Harry said at the time, a full four years before he would meet his now-wife, Meghan Markle. “I’m waiting to find the right person and someone who’s willing to take on the job.”
