Katie Holmes Packed a Lot of Styling Tricks Into This All-Black Outfit

2 min read

Katie Holmes is no sartorial wallflower. She breaks fashion rules, she pairs unexpected colors together and she even hails cabs in style. So, it was no surprise when, at Berlin Fashion Week, the 41-year-old Dawson’s Creek alum added a surprising flair to her all-black outfit.

As someone who lives in New York, Holmes is no stranger to the all-black uniform. But this go-around she really jazzed it up, selecting a black tailored A-line coat with accented pockets and leather pants. Clearly, Holmes knows that playing with textures is one of the best ways to make a single-color outfit feel multi-dimensional.

Get the look: Vince modern wool blend coat ($320); Naked Wardrobe tank bodysuit ($38); BlankNYC vegan leather pants ($98); Schutz Ionara ankle strap pumps ($126); Bony Levy 14k gold hoop earrings($175); Nordstrom mini ryder croc embossed leather top handle bag ($149).

Holmes walked the red carpet at Marc Cain’s Berlin show yesterday in a straight off-the-runway Marc Cain coat that she styled with the aforementioned leather pants and a black tank. The coat, which isn’t yet available to the public, has an interesting feathered wool detail at the pockets that really brings the drama.

But the surprising texture didn’t stop there. Holmes also carried a black croc handbag and wore black pointed-toe stilettos with an elaborate ankle strap that she tied over her pants. (FYI: That’s a great trick for making your legs look longer.)

The actress and humanitarian completed the look with bouncy Kate Middleton-esque curls and a side part, as well as delicate gold hoop earrings and a golden smoky eye with lots of individual lashes.

There’s no doubt about it: Berlin (and everywhere, really) is Katie Holmes’s runway.
