Keke Palmer Urges National Guardsmen to March Alongside Los Angeles Protesters

As Black Lives Matter protests continued across the country, Keke Palmer's impassioned encounter with the National Guard is inspiring Twitter users. Palmer was one of many people demonstrating in Los Angeles on Tuesday. When she encountered a National Guardsman, she implored him and his fellow guardsmen to walk alongside the protesters, not police them.

Twitter user Gadi Schwartz, a correspondent for NBC, recorded Palmer's exchange with the soldier.

"You have to pay attention to what's going on," Palmer said before she spoke out against police brutality and racial inequality. "We have a president that's trying to incite a race war, and the borders are closed. We can't leave. You have people in here that need your help. This is when you stand together with community, with society, to stop the governmental oppression. Period. We need you."

"I agree," the guardsman said.

"So, march with us! March beside us. Get your people... let the revolution be televised," Palmer continued. "March beside us. Make history!"

When the guardsman explained that he could only walk as far as the next intersection, Palmer asked him to walk with the group and to protect them as they marched.

"Protect us. Do that march with us," she said.

Instead of walking, the guardsman offered to take a knee in solidarity with the protesters.

"This is so powerful," a Twitter user commented. Another added, "This gave me hope."

Other commenters praised Palmer's passion: "She’s a powerful and persuasive speaker-she got them to want to march w/them!"
