Kelly and Blake Battled It Out Over This Emotional Blind Audition on 'The Voice'
Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton are butting heads over another country contestant on The Voice–and we can see why!
During the NBC show’s Blind Auditions airing Monday, Dave Fenley stunned the two coaches (and his father who was brought to tears!) with his rendition of “Help Me Hold On” by Travis Tritt. In the exclusive preview above, fans can see Clarkson wasted no time pressing her button for the Nashville-based vocalist, while Shelton followed suit shortly after.
Clarkson tried to use her pop-country crossovers as a reason for Fenley to join her team, as Fenley said he was interested in a variety of music and even showed off his beatboxing skills. But she may not stand a chance against Shelton, who has captured the heart of someone very important to Fenley.
“I have a request of you. My mama wants a neck hug,” Fenley told Shelton. The country star, who has won the most Voice competitions so far, was quick to respond, “I give some really good neck hugs to my contestant’s mothers.”
Fenley isn’t the only artist who’s grabbed the coaches' attention this season. Veteran Mikele Buck also had Clarkson and Shelton going head-to-head, while 13-year-old Kennedy Holmes and Hurricane Harvey survivor DeAndre Nico both received a four-chair turnaround.
Though Clarkson came out on top when it came to Buck’s audition, Fenley’s family obligation-especially when his mom chants, "I need my hug, David!"-might mean that Shelton walks away with a new team member.
To see who Fenley ends up with, tune into The Voice, Monday at 8:00 p.m. EST on NBC.
