Kelly Brown's love of escape rooms led him to open The Games We Play Escape Rooms

LANCASTER ? After enjoying escape rooms for 10 years, Kelly Brown decided to open his own. Thus, the birth of The Games We Play Escape Rooms at 1806 W. Fair Ave. in March.

"They're amazing," Brown said of escape rooms. "The idea is it's an interactive scavenger hunt indoors. You get to unplug and see what makes everybody tick and how their brain works."

He said his customers are usually groups of four to six people. He and his wife first went to one in Canada on their honeymoon.

"Since then we’ve done one in about every state we’ve visited and still get giddy to do our next," Brown said. "Primarily we do them with just her and I but occasionally we bring another couple, friends, or family and it’s always fun to see how people can unlock that curiosity and problem-solving skills."

The Games We Play Escape Rooms has two rooms.

The Upside Down room is heavily themed on the show, "Stranger Things." The players' mission is to stop the villain Vecna from destroying the world.

The Once Upon a Time room features Rumplestiltskin. Players visit the enchanted forest, but they find the magic fading and Rumplestiltskin is the main suspect.

"Both of them you can bring your kids to and not have to worry about them being too scared or anything," Brown, a local police officer, said. We’ve made our rooms private so you won’t have to share space with others even if you don’t book the maximum eight slots. Once at the entry of your game, the game master will go over the ground rules, your objectives, and wish you luck."

The Games We Play Escape Rooms is open from 4 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. It is open from 2 to 10 p.m. Sunday and closed on Monday and Wednesday.
