Kelly Clarkson fans are having a hard time catching their breath after her latest Kellyoke performance.
On Thursday's (March 7) edition of her Emmy-winning talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, the 41-year-old, along with the support of My Band Y'all, performed another country hit from singer-songwriter Lainey Wilson.
A couple of days ago, Clarkson and Wilson joined forces to sing the 31-year-old's new single, "Country's Cool Again." But this time, the American Idol OG took the stage by herself to cover "Smell Like Smoke," a track off of Wilson's 2022 album Bell Bottom Country.
Hours after the episode first aired, Clarkson's live version of the song was shared on YouTube and fans went wild.
"This woman is a country superstar in waiting," one fan declared in the comments.
A second quipped, "Kelly's got twang."
"Great cover Kelly loving all the country lately," another wrote.
"Kelly! You’re on a country streak. Keep’em coming," someone else shared. "Are you trying to tell us something?"
Countless others begged her to release a country album, like this fan who asked, "WHERE IS OUR KELLY COUNTRY ALBUM!!? That is what I have been waiting for a lonnnggg Time girl . Kelly is the New Queen of Counrty y'all."
Clarkson hasn't mentioned anything about making a country album, but it's clear her stans want her to break into the genre with her own original songwriting. Until she confirms she has plans to do so, her recent covers will have to do–and there's a lot of them.
Not including her many renditions of Wilson's songs, the Grammy winner has also put her own twist on Chris Stapleton's "I Was Wrong," Ashley McBryde's "Bonfire at Tina's," "The Way It Is" by Bruce Hornsby and Kylie Morgan's "If He Wanted to He Would," among others.
