Kelly Clarkson Prepares for Next Big Move After Las Vegas Residency
Kelly Clarkson is having a great year full of big adventures and big changes. This June, the singer released her long-awaited new album, Chemistry, before starting a short Las Vegas residency in July.
As the residency comes to a close, Clarkson has another major event coming up as she moves her kids from the West Coast to New York City for the next stage of their life.
Earlier this year, Clarkson announced the move. Her popular talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, will also move across the country, debuting from NBC's 30 Rockefeller Plaza when it returns with season five. The show has already been renewed for a sixth season as well. There is currently no premiere date set for the new season, and it's unclear how affected it will be by the ongoing strikes.
Clarkson discussed the big change with TalkShopLive, sharing what it was like introducing the idea to the team behind her talk show: "I haven't actually been able to talk about this a lot. I talked to my crew back in January through tears because I have built such an amazing group of people."
She went on, saying, "I feel like our family, me and my kids, really needed a fresh start and I just could not get it here [in Los Angeles]."
Earlier this year, she also spoke with Today about her move to the big city. Clarkson said that she began thinking of getting out of Los Angeles during the height of COVID-19, noting, "I think COVID pointed out a lot of things. A lot of us didn't make it relationship-wise. Also it just proved I've never really liked living in L.A."
"It's just never been my thing, in 20 years. I never wanted to live there in the first place," she added. Clarkson's entire family lives on the East Coast as well, so she constantly missed them.
Clarkson will move with her two kids, River, 9, and son Remington, 7, who are apparently big fans of public transport. Her kids are also big supporters of her music, and they marked the end of her Las Vegas residency with their own performances with their mother.
