Kelly Clarkson Reflects on 'Red Flag' With Ex Husband
Kelly Clarkson is getting candid about the bad signs she didn't pay attention to in her former marriage to ex husband Brandon Blackstock.
During an episode of her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, which aired a rerun on June 2, the "Because of You" songstress shaded her ex after making a not-so-subtle comment about a major red flag that she overlooked.
Clarkson, 41—who shares two children with Blackstock: daughter River Rose, 8, and son Remington Alexander, 7—was having a discussion with her guests on Friday's show, when Priyanka Chopra explained the concept of "push presents" to her.
For those who don't know, a push present is a gift that a husband gives his wife after she has a baby, and Clarkson wasn't afraid to admit that she never received one from her ex.
"I didn't get a present," Clarkson told guest Carey Hart, after he revealed he got his wife Pink a custom-built motorcycle when she gave birth.
"That should've been a red flag," the Voice coach said of not getting her own push present, though she did Blackstock the benefit of the doubt by adding, "I honestly don't know that he knew."
Since filing her divorce from Blackstock in June 2020, Clarkson hasn't been shy to talk publicly about the experience, especially when it comes to ignoring red flags. She even dubbed herself a "red flag corrector" back in 2021, per PEOPLE.
Clarkson is also definitely willing to sing about her former relationship, and her fans are ready for it. The American Idol winner is currently gearing up to drop her newest album, chemistry, later this month, and the new tracks are already expected to be chock-full of emotional lyrics about her love life.
Just this week, Clarkson released her newest single, "i hate love," which, judging by the title, has a pretty relevant subject matter within the song. As a bonus, the track also includes a feature from Steve Martin, who accompanies the singer with his top-tier banjo skills.
You can listen to "i hate love" now, and catch the rest of Clarkson's highly anticipated new album chemistry when it drops on June 23.
