Kelly Osbourne says she is 1 year sober: 'What a difference a year can make!'
Kelly Osbourne is celebrating a major milestone.
The Fashion Police alum, 37, took to Instagram yesterday to share that she is now one year sober from alcohol. In the caption of her post which revealed she had hit the one year benchmark, Osbourne wrote, “What a difference a year can make! If you would have told me 365 days ago that I would be sober, happy, and about to be a mumma I would have laughed in your face. Life is truly amazing when you do the work. Thank you to everyone that has supported me on this journey. I love you all so much!!!!!!!”
The star received lots of support in the comments section. Lucy Hale and Trish Cyrus both dropped hearts, while Food Network personality Sunny Anderson shared a few fire emojis to show her support. Others used the comments section to show how Osbourne inspired them on their own journeys.
“You have truly inspired me along my journey in recovery,” one follower wrote. “I am 5 days away from 6 months of sobriety.”
Another added, “I'm 354 days 9 mins and 6 seconds sober...and it is WAY harder than I ever thought it could be...my 3 kids are all grown but have done it for the next generation. Good luck with the next chapter in your journey.”
This isn’t the only piece of good news that Osbourne has shared recently. The So Undercover actress revealed in a May 12 Instagram post that she was expecting her first child with her partner, Slipknot’s Sid Wilson.
She captioned a photo of her sonogram, “I know that I have been very quiet these past few months so I thought I would share with you all as to why… I am over the moon to announce that I am going to be a Mumma. To say that I am happy does not quite cut it. I am ecstatic!”
Osbourne has long been candid about her history with substance abuse, which included painkillers and heroin. In a June 2021 episode of Red Table Talk, she explained that she had recently broken her four years of sobriety, and called alcohol her preferred “drug of choice.”
“I love it,” she told the hosts at the time. “I don't love it because of the way it makes me feel. I like that it makes me not feel. I want to be numb to everything.”
Osbourne said she has confronted her alcohol dependency by undergoing a 12 step program as well as daily therapy.
“It's a battle for me every single day,” she said at the time. “It's never, ever going to get easy.”
