Kelly Ripa Claps Back After Viewers Called Her “Shiny” While Filming “Live with Kelly and Ryan”
Kelly Ripa, 49, clapped back after viewers said she looked "shiny" while filming Live with Kelly and Ripa at home.
Ripa said it's "harder than you think" to get ready and film a live television show outside of the accommodations of a TV studio.
The Live with Kelly and Ryan host said she's been taking care of her skin in quarantine by wearing sunscreen inside, per her dermatologist's recommendation.
While many of us get to work in pajamas and sweatpants during quarantine, Kelly Ripa and other television hosts are responsible for doing their own glam as they shoot their live TV shows from home.
Apparently, some Live with Kelly and Ryan viewers had the nerve to say that Ripa and co-host Ryan Seacrest look "shiny in our DIY process," Seacrest said on Friday. This did not go over well with Ripa, who wants viewers to know how much effort they put into glamming up before going on air.
"First of all, let me just say, to people commenting about our appearance, 'How dare you and you're lucky that we actually put clothes on," the star joked. "It's harder than you think to roll out of bed and come to a TV show."
"It's a disaster," Seacrest added, while showing off some visible wires in his makeshift kitchen studio.
Ripa even joked that she's close to filming the show on her laptop in bed. "I'm not going to do that because I keep telling myself, 'You're a professional and this is still a TV show and the days matter,'" she said. "It's kind of like my mantra."
Ripa told her co-host that the bronzer he was wearing looks "fetching" on him.
"Here's what it looks like. This is what's in my drawer to avoid a glisten-y presentation," Seacrest said, showing off all his products.
Ripa said she puts so much bronzer on that it's "sand-blasted" into her skin. "It really stays into the crevices," she said.
Despite their heavy use of makeup for live TV, Ripa said she hasn't ordered any beauty products while in quarantine. "I for one have not ordered makeup and I’m just using what I have," she said. "Some of it, I'm sure, is probably toxic. It's probably way past its expiration date."
Ripa's fans were quick to defend her quarantine appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan's Instagram account. "You GO Kelly!!! I think you've been doing a fantastic job with continuing the show and keeping us entertained and informed during all of this!" wrote one fan, while another commented, "Kelly - you are beautiful inside and out! Thank you for being real ??."
Despite all the heavy makeup, the Live with Kelly and Ryan host has been taking good care of her skin during quarantine. Ripa has been wearing sunscreen even while inside the house.
"We have windows and the sun penetrates the windows. I'm not kidding," she said on Monday's show. Her dermatologist told her that "he could lock me in a dark room for five years and when he came back, there would be sun damage all over my face, it's what happened to you years ago, it comes out."
Ripa and husband Mark Consuelos, who was guest-hosting today, joked about how their parents used to rub baby oil all over them and stick them in the sun. "My mom told me it would cure acne if I sat in direct sunlight," Ripa said.
We think Ripa looks great—with sand-blasted makeup or not!
