Kelly Ripa Didn't Hold Back About Critics Approaching Her in Real Life With Rude Comments

Kelly Ripa is done with the unsolicited comments about her appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan.

On February 9, the 51-year-old daytime TV show cohost opened up about viewers approaching her in real life to give their opinion about her hair. The conversation was sparked after fellow Live cohost Ryan Seacrest revealed that he was growing out his hair for the show's upcoming Oscars special. During this conservation, Kelly wondered out loud how often Ryan heard people's thoughts about his hair because she received comments frequently — and she didn't enjoy it.

"People weigh in on my hair in a way, it's like, 'Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't ask you,'" Kelly said. "They come up in the store and they're like, 'I like your hair this length,' and I'm like, [gives the thumbs-up sign]. I'm like, 'I have no comparison for your hair, but I assume it looks pretty great every day.'"

After hearing about Kelly's experience, Live! producer Michael Gelman chimed in from behind the cameras and revealed that it wasn't unusual for viewers to share their two cents about her blonde hairdo. "The height of your hair, what your hair looks like, what you should do with your hair — both of you," he said. While Michael acknowledged that Ryan's hair was brought up, there wasn't much said about it.

Now, this isn't the first time Kelly has gotten candid about dealing with her hair on-camera. In January, she shared why she returned to her signature blonde hair after embracing her grey hair in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic.

"Cher was saying that grey hair is not for her. She is not caving in, she doesn't care about the trend ... Everybody's embracing their grey hair," Kelly said. "I need to dye my hair. I think certain people look great with their gray hair. I think it depends on the person. I really do.”

Based off of what we've heard, the mother three is all about letting unwanted comments roll off her back.
