Kelly Ripa filtered her selfie, and she has no shame about it
We love to praise celebrities for sharing a makeup-free selfie, but there’s something just as refreshingly honest about Kelly Ripa, who filtered her latest photo and wants her fans to know it.
In a new selfie posted to her Instagram, Ripa showed off a “Chula” top by artist M. Tony Peralta. But instead of focusing on the fashion, Ripa’s caption homed in on her face. “#nofilter just kidding,” she wrote. “Thank you @peraltaprjct for my new uniform, so obviously i NEEDED to filter to live up to the title. (It’s FaceApp FYI).”

Not only did Ripa admit to using a filter, but she shared exactly which app she chose to up her selfie game. FaceApp doesn’t just add a color to a photo; it can change a user into an entirely different person. Different settings can make you look younger (or older), change your gender, or increase or decrease a smile. Ripa didn’t share exactly how she edited the original photo, but that hasn’t stopped fans from asking.
“Which filter do you use on faceapp please? It just makes me look weird!!” one wrote into the comments section. Others wrote in to give Ripa the ultimate social media compliment — that she doesn’t need a filter. Fans left sweet words like, “I know you love the app @kellyripa but you really don’t need it babe” and “You don’t need no stinkin filter @kellyripa you’re #goals for real!!”
Another commenter enlightened Ripa about one of FaceApp’s cons. “Be careful Kelly, it’s addicting and then it becomes a bit of a reality check to see pics before the touch ups,” the fan wrote.
In the past, Ripa has been open about her Botox use — including one experience that left her unable to smile for six months. “I’m starting to look myself again, but there was about a six-month period where people were like, ‘What’s wrong with Kelly? She doesn’t smile anymore,’” she said at the time. “And I was like, ‘I am smiling!’”
Even a frozen face didn’t deter Ripa from her beloved Botox. In 2017, after a fan commented on her glowing skin, Ripa responded, “And for everyone saying such nice things, I just got Botox on Friday, and you just can’t beat fresh Bo.”
Whether you prefer to use a filter or are a fan of Botox, there’s no shame in that. But as Ripa knows, you look even better when you share your truth.
