Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos Detail 'Challenges' of Working With Your Spouse

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos may be one enamoring pair of co-hosts, but running Live! together doesn't come without its difficulties.

The spouses of 27 years recently opened up about the "challenges" that they've discovered come with the territory over the last six or so months of working with one another, speaking with Hello! on the red carpet of a PaleyFest event honoring their television legacy in New York City on Oct. 11.

Ripa, 53, called out one "big challenge" in particular: "somebody not being there to let the dogs out in the morning..."

On a more serious note, Consuelos, 52, pointed out how hard it has been to transition from acting to hosting, struggling for weeks, in the beginning, to break the fourth wall, as it were, and look directly into the camera.

Ripa was quick to agree, adding, "I can tell you, as a former actor, it was very hard for me [at first]. It took him a couple of weeks to get over it, it took me years to actually look into the camera. Because you're so trained not to look into the camera. That was a big challenge."

Of course, there are comforting aspects of their partnership, too. "I always know I have somebody next to me that, even when I mess up, will always lift me up and move on and reassure me that it's fine," Consuelos sweetly noted.

The couple recently celebrated the end of summer with their kids, Michael, 26, Lola, 22 and Joaquin, 20, as well as Consuelos' former Riverdale costar Cole Sprouse, but are excited to be back at it on the morning show—although Ripa's feelings about their new intro are questionable, at best.
