Kelly Ripa Tearfully Discusses Regis Philbin’s Death

"Regis is one of the people that we all believed, I think, would somehow figure out a way around the inevitable."

Kelly Ripa opened up about the death of her former co-host Regis Philbin. Philbin died on Saturday of natural causes at 88-years-old.

On Live with Kelly and Ryan, she discussed the moment she found out he was gone. "Mark [Consuelos] and I were lucky enough to have all of our children with us this past weekend on Saturday," Ripa explained. "We were all together when we heard this horrible news."

She continued, "As people get older, you always know that certain things are inevitable, and passing away is one of those things, but Regis is one of the people that we all believed, I think, would somehow figure out a way around the inevitable. It was not in the cards, I suppose."

Ripa hosted Live! with Philbin for 10 years.

Later in the video, Ripa went on to express condolences for Philbin's family and told the audience that he is set to be buried at the Notre Dame Campus in Sound Bend, Indiana. He was apparently a huge fan of the athletic teams.

She also shared a story about how much Philbin respected Seacrest. "I know from Regis and me working with you all those years hosting the Disney Parade, we always looked at you Ryan like...They don't make 'em like Regis anymore, right? And then here comes Ryan Seacrest and Regis is like, 'That kid has it. He's got it.' It's that thing that you don't see anymore, the work ethic and the storytelling ability."
